Give Your Home a Unique Atmosphere with Glass Bird Feeders
When you think of glass bird feeders, the first thing that probably crosses your mind is some kind of ugly, atrocious creation that looks as if it might be better suited in a science lab than in your yard. Many times, glass bird feeders look as if their c

If you have recently been to your local hardware store to check out the selection of bird feeders, you may be amazed by how much squirrel proof bird feeders cost these days. When they are simply nothing more than a regular bird feeder with a cage or a small fence around it, the premiums these squirrel proof bird feeders run these days is absolutely amazing. While you could easily spend away your cash on purchasing a readymade squirrel proof bird feeder at your local hardware store, why waste your money when you can simply build one or two yourself. Building your own bird feeders is an excellent way to occupy some of your spare time, and is perfect if you and your family are looking for a fresh new hobby to do on the weekends.

Essentially, there are two ways that you can go about building your own squirrel proof bird feeders. Firstly, you can build them from scratch using just pieces of metal, wood and plastic that you may have sitting around your home or garage. Alternatively, you could use an existing bird feeder and modify it to be completely impenetrable to squirrels. Even though it may seem like it would be easier to modify an existing bird feeder, surprisingly enough, that course of action might actually be a bit more difficult due to the fact that the bird feeder was never designed with those modifications in mind.

So, if you want to build your own squirrel proof bird feeders from scratch, the first thing you need to do is to assemble all of your parts. On the list should be supplies like wood, plastic and chicken wire. All you really have to do is design and construct the basic shape from the wood, add in windows made from plastic and then enclose the entire design in chicken wire to have completely squirrel proof bird feeders. Although the project may take some time at first, consider the first attempt a necessary part of the learning process.
